About Our Tour

This narrated journey travels through a portion of the Warehouse and Capital Districts on its way to the focus of the tour: the Oakwood Historic District. Oakwood is a pretty downtown neighborhood filled with restored 19th-century homes in a variety of architectural styles. See where prominent city founders once lived and enjoy an extended glide through the sprawling, hilly grounds of historic Oakwood Cemetery. Carolina Touring Company is an Oakwood Cemetery authorized tour.

Highlights of the Historic Oakwood tour:
• Oakwood Historic District: The 19th-century neighborhood was Raleigh’s first true “suburb” and is filled with lovely period homes.
• Oakwood Cemetery: On our authorized tour of this historic cemetery, founded in 1869, you’ll see the final resting place of nearly 1,500 Confederate soldiers; the House of Memory pays tribute to North Carolinians who’ve served our country in times of conflict.
• Governor’s Mansion: Built in 1891, the stately Queen-Anne style home serves as the official residence of North Carolina’s governor.
